Interchange Festival

Event Description

Let’s get this tram a rollin’! The G:link Stage 2 just opened! Celebrate the G:link coming to Helensvale with a huge festival of family fun on January 13th called ‘Interchange Festival’.

Ride the G: to Helensvale and join in on a huge celebration with a brass-off with New Orlean style brass bands, parades, a trackless train running throughout the market, buskers, family fun, market stalls and street food.

The old world will meet the new at the Interchange Festival, with nods to the heritage of railway culture, while celebrating the connection of the cutting-edge light rail system to the Northern Gold Coast.

The name ‘Interchange Festival’ celebrates the fact that the transit centre at Helensvale will be Australia’s only single multi-modal transport hub with bus, passenger rail and tram interchange when the light rail is connected.

8 piece brass band The Boutique Brews Brass Band will be performing a blend of funk and New Orleans inspired music. Busking culture will be celebrated with the Gold Coast’s most beloved one-man band and busking legend Juzzie Smith and Busking Champions Haystack Mountain Hermits taking the stage. There will also be busking stations throughout the venue. Devil’s Kiosk, with champion harmonica player Jamie Symons will be performing on The Backyard stage.

It will be a night out for the whole family, with free jumping castle and face painting for kids and a trackless train running throughout NightQuarter with free rides for families.

Come along for a fantastic evening of live bands, free kids entertainment, market stalls, delicious food and more.

We can't wait to see you there!
